Matilda’s Way BTC Protected Natural Area

Sunday, April 21 – Celebrating Earth Day
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Meet at the Parking Lot on Mono 5 Sideroad on the north side of the road.
248336 Side Road 5, Orangeville.
Google GPS Coordinates: 43.974055, -79.984988

From Airport Road/Peel Regional Road 7, head east on Sideroad for 600 metres.

Join the Caledon Hills Biodiversity Team and the BTC to help plant native trees and shrubs at our Mathilda’s Way property in Mono. Club volunteers were hard at work removing invasive species from this area in 2023, and now the time has come to replant to help improve the biodiversity of this space.

Participants are asked to bring a shovel or trowel, gardening gloves, and water. Please note this event will run rain or shine, and participants are asked to dress for the weather.

Whitetail Refuge Nature Reserve

Saturday, May 4
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Meet at the JUST SOUTH OF 754415 Mono Centre Road, Mono Centre, ON.
Google GPS Coordinates: 44.020487, -80.070738.
Volunteers will direct you to park on a field east of the road.

From ON-10, head east on Dufferin Road 8/Mono Centre Road for approximately 5.5 kilometres.

Join Caledon Hills Biodiversity Team, Bruce Trail Conservancy, and Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority partners to help plant 400 trees and shrubs at BTC’s Whitetail Refuge Nature Reserve to create a forested corridor along Mono Centre Creek. The creek is part of the 3600km2 Nottawasaga River watershed, which flows downstream from the Niagara Escarpment to discharge into Georgian Bay at Wasaga Beach. This high-quality, cold-water river supports trout, salmon and a wide variety of other fish and wildlife. To help protect it from erosion and keep it cool and oxygen-rich, projects like riparian tree planting help make it more resilient to a changing climate and land uses.

Plan to attend the Make Mono Shine Community Event at the Community Centre after the planting.

Register for one project or both. A reminder e-mail will be sent to volunteers closer to the dates.
