Difference between a Wood Lily and an Orange Day-Lily:
The gorgeous Wood Lily is recognized by its funnel-shaped reddish orange petals and purplish spots radiating from the flower’s centre. The stalks rise 30 to 90 cm with whorled narrow leaves. Although once plentiful, it is now considered rare due to intensively grazed meadowlands and people picking the beautiful summer blooms. This North American native species is not to be confused with the “garden escapee” Orange Day-lily, which is often spotted in rural ditches along the trail.
