Lots To Do At The 2017 CHBTC AGM!

Many of us have heard the term Annual General Meeting, or AGM, but not really understood what it was.  Simply put, an AGM is where the members of an organization get together at a business meeting to elect board members, make decisions, and review reports on the organization’s activities of the past year.  If you’ve never been to one, I encourage you to attend one for an organization that you belong to.

And if you are looking for an AGM to attend, I can recommend one that is more than just a business meeting!  On Sunday, April 9th, the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club (CHBTC) will be holding its annual general meeting and potluck at Caledon Village Place.  As in past years, we will be combining our AGM with an opportunity for members to get together in a social way.  And the potluck isn’t the only thing that we have planned for the day.

Our agenda wouldn’t be complete without a hike, so we start the day with one.  We follow it up with refreshments and a social hour.  During our social hour, you’ll also have the chance to stop by our Tech Table, where you can learn how to become connected to us on your own devices through Facebook, Instagram, and our Blog.

Afterwards, we’ll hold a short meeting where members vote in the Board of Directors, can participate in club decision-making, and have an opportunity to hear a summary of what we’ve been up to in the past year.

Following that, we have an exciting presentation!  Peter Leeney, CHBTC member and Director at Large, will share slides and talk to us about his trip with the “Skyline Hikers” in the Rockies.

And, of course, we can’t forget about the potluck, which follows Peter’s presentation, and is sure to have a variety of scrumptious dishes.

Throughout the day, you’ll be able to bid on silent auction items and visit the Bruce Trail merchandise table.  We’ve also added a raffle draw, giving you a chance to win a yet-to-be-released 50th Anniversary Edition of the Bruce Trail Reference field guide (Edition 29).

You won’t want to miss any of the day’s activities, but if you are pressed for time, it’s okay to attend only the parts of the agenda that fit into your schedule.  Come join us on April 9th, you never know what people you’ll meet and the adventure it’s going to start for you.  My involvement as a volunteer with the CHBTC began when I attended last year’s AGM, and look what fun that’s turned into!

More details and activity times are available in our AGM flyer.
