Why Is It Called the “Peter Beecham Side Trail”?
This is a very short Side Trail – 25 meters – taking the hiker from a roadside parking area on the 4th Line, Mono, accessing the main Bruce Trail. Peter Beecham was a local Scout leader whose Scout troop maintained the Bruce Trail between the 3rd and 4th Lines of Mono Township in the late 1980’s, early 1990’s. For many years there was a wooden sign on the Bruce Trail that informed hikers that the scouts looked after this section of main trail. Peter Beecham died in April 1992, at the age of 39, as a result of an unfortunate accident. The naming of this Side Trail honours his role involving youth in nature & maintaining a wilderness footpath – the Bruce Trail. The Bruce Trail Conservancy purchased the nearby Goodyear Memorial Scout Camp in 2023 – securing more of the Bruce Trail for future generations – and continuing a special collaboration with the Scouts.
