Discovering Summer on the Trail

After a lengthy spring that seemed as if it repeatedly relapsed into winter, it feels like summer is finally here! It’s time to switch from winter and rubber boots to hiking boots and check out our summer hike schedule. This year’s schedule is full of things that you’ve told us you like: earning badges and discovering trails.

Our summer hike schedule will help you continue to work on earning your Discovery Badge or Historical Hike Badge. Both badges have you seeking out interesting points along the trail and learning about the stories behind them. Note that our requirements for the Discovery Badge recently changed, so please ensure future hikes you plan on your own reflect the latest hikes listed for the badge requirements.

An end-to-end hike series is ideal for helping you discover the entire Caledon Hills section and also for earning an end-to-end badge. The Easy End-to-End hike series we began in spring continues this summer. However, if you missed the spring hikes in this series, you can still join in for any of the remaining hikes in the summer. If you’re planning on doing an end-to-end on your own, these organized hikes are also a great way to get you started on that goal. And speaking of end-to-ends, registration for the Caledon Hills Thanksgiving E2E event has already begun, so if you’re planning to join us on October 12th – 14th for this popular event, I encourage you to sign-up now!

If you’re interested in exploring other sections of the Bruce Trail, we’ve got organized hikes planned in the Blue Mountains (Black Bank) and Beaver Valley (Epping) sections. If you’re taking a stay-cation this summer, you’ll have additional opportunities to continue the exploration theme by joining our Tuesday hikers as they explore the Bruce Trail and other trails in July and August.

The Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club is entirely run by volunteers. Without the invaluable support of these members, there would be no trails or organized hikes. On Sunday, June 2nd, we say thank you to all our volunteers at our annual volunteer appreciation picnic. If you’re joining us that day, you’ll be able to start this day off with a hike, too!

Whether you’re trying to earn your next badge or just looking for ways to get out and discover the trail, our summer hike schedule has something for you. Hope to see you out there over the summer!
