On June 5th, over 30 people gathered on the banks of the Credit River to pay tribute to the Club’s many volunteers.
Three awards are handed out at the picnic, and this year’s recipients were:
Albert McMaster, for the Isabel East Award. Albert was recognized for his long-standing role as a hike leader and ambassador, whose specialty is the Forks of the Credit area. History buffs will find he is a treasure trove of information!
David Weicker, for the Barry Westhouse Award. In addition to David’s skill at creating blaze templates, Trail Coordinator Joan Richard was especially thankful that he made repairs to the Dingle portion of the trail long before anyone knew there was a problem!
Jean Kerins, for the Ross McLean Award. This award requires ten years’ commitment as a volunteer in a variety of roles, and Jean has fulfilled many roles, notably five years as club president. During her tenure, the Club celebrated its 50th anniversary and hosted the AGM for the BTC, both major undertakings!
President Bob Ferguson began the award ceremony with the announcement of Gord Ross‘s recent passing. Many will remember Gord for his skill on the piano at the Club’s pot luck dinners, participating with the work crews on trail maintenance, and collecting loonies for Tuesday hikes. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends in the CHBTC.
Special thank you to Colleen Darrell, Volunteer Coordinator, for organizing the event and door prizes, and to Nicola Ross for donating her book “Caledon Hikes: Loops & Lattes” for one of the prizes.
